We’ve all been in a situation where we come back home after a rejuvenating trip and there is an overwhelming number of tasks that need to be done. Perhaps you weren’t really organised prior to your holiday and have left a bit of a mess at home? Sometimes there is just as much as we can do and if you couldn’t leave your house clean, laundry done and folded etc, then you shouldn’t worry too much. The first day or so after travelling always feels a bit weird so doing some household chores can help you get back to normality and start the new week refreshed.
Here at We Buy Any House, we have gathered some ways you could get yourself organised quickly at home and prepare to go back to reality with everything sorted out in your house. Anything from unpacking your suitcase to doing the laundry and your grocery shopping will certainly help you adjust to life after a holiday.
1. Pace Yourself
Arriving at your home and witnessing the pure chaos that forms can be rather overwhelming, and you may feel the urge to start cleaning straight away. However, that is not always the best option as you are already exhausted from travelling. You want to give yourself some time to recover so that when you start organising your house, you can be fully alert and focused on the task at hand. Rushing will only make things worse, so we recommend you take your time and if it takes you a day or two, that’s completely okay.
2. Create a To-Do List
Nothing starts without a plan so once you have recovered and assessed the situation, you can create a list of all the things you should do to get your home in order again before jumping into real life. It’s more rewarding if you add smaller tasks which you can do quickly and tick off your list such as ‘change your bed sheets’. There is nothing worse than spending around an hour on something and then not being able to cross it off your to-do list because it is somehow connected to another thing.
Chances are that you have left a bit of chaos after yourself prior to leaving for your holiday so one of the first tasks you should have is to declutter your space. Make sure you put everything back to where it used to be, throw out any expired food from your fridge and tidy up what you can initially.
4. Unpack Your Suitcase
It’s a bad habit but we have all done it at some point – not unpacking our suitcase as soon as we get home and leaving it for a few days (not to mention weeks sometimes) untouched. The reason you would want to unpack your suitcase or at least your clothing before cleaning is because you may have to do several laundry loads so you should start straight away. Simply transferring your dirty clothing from your suitcase to your washing machine shouldn’t be much of a difficult task so there’s something easy to cross off your list!
5. Do Laundry Loads
Since you will probably need to do a few loads for your laundry, you want to start them as early as possible. As already mentioned, unpack your dirty clothes right away and do your first load as soon as you can. You can then proceed to do the rest, separating your colours and delicates.
6. Deep Clean
There’s nothing better than cleaning your whole house and starting fresh after a holiday or a getaway. Getting back into a routine will be easier if you have everything clean, organised and nice for you to use. That is why deep cleaning your home would be a great recommendation for things to do after you come back from traveling.
7. Do Food Shopping
If you really don’t have anything in your fridge and you don’t want to order takeaway or this house organising takes a bit longer than a day, you can do this earlier. If not, you can wait until you have cleared up the house, unpacked and you are now ready to go get some food to cook.
8. Relax and Catch Up
Now that everything is nice and clean, your suitcase is unpacked, and groceries are done, you can relax. While you do that, you can also back up your photos from your trip safely, so you don’t lose anything. You could check your emails and mail for anything that may need sorting out urgently. Once you have done all these things you will feel as if you can start your next day with a clear house and mind, ready to tackle anything that comes your way.
